Biden’s hug sets the tone for PM Modi’s US trip | India News

The bonhomie displayed by US President Joe Biden with Prime Minister Narendra Modi is being seen as good augury for the summit-level bilateral interaction scheduled next month when the latter visits Washington DC.
The PM was seated among other leaders of G7 countries when President Joe Biden walked up to him. Photographs of the US leader warmly hugging the PM went viral, raising expectations of a successful bilateral dialogue.
Modi who had a jampacked 16-hour schedule, beginning 3.30am IST, went into the summit with, according to a survey conducted by international pollster Morning Consult, a 78% approval rating.
While India has been consecutively invited to G7 summits, Modi’s visit to Papua New Guinea is set to witness a rare example when a head of state will be given gun salutes even after sunset.
Sources said, as per tradition, a country does not give the honour of gun salutes after sunset but Modi will be given that as an exception. The country’s PM James Marape will be personally present at the airport to receive him.
